History of Jazz
Jazz is a Pakistan-based telecommunications company that was formed in 2001 as a joint venture between Mobilink and Verizon Communications. Mobilink was originally launched in Pakistan in 1994 as a joint venture between Motorola and Saif Group, and was the first cellular service provider in the country.
In 2007, Mobilink and Warid Telecom (another Pakistani telecommunications company) merged, creating the largest mobile network operator in Pakistan with over 38 million subscribers. The company was rebranded as Jazz in 2015, and currently has over 60 million subscribers.
Jazz has been credited with introducing a number of firsts in Pakistan's telecommunications industry, including the launch of the country's first GSM-based mobile service, the first international roaming service, and the first mobile banking service.
Jazz has also been recognized for its corporate social responsibility initiatives and has won multiple awards for its contributions to education, health, and the environment.
In 2020, VEON, a global communications company based in Amsterdam, acquired 100% of the share in Jazz Pakistan. The company has now become a fully-owned subsidiary of VEON, and operates under the Jazz brand.
Jazz continues to be one of the leading telecommunications companies in Pakistan, offering mobile services, internet, and digital solutions to customers across the country.
